Microsoft Windows 10 Auto Update Advisory

On February 2, 2016, Microsoft implemented a change in the phased rollout of the Windows 10 operating system. This change may result in Windows 10 automatically downloading to systems running Windows 7 or 8. Once the download is complete, users will be prompted to upgrade to version 10.

Information Services and Technology (IST) is advising affected users to decline the upgrade to Windows 10. IST has been evaluating Windows 10 in order to test compatibility with university systems and applications. IST has also been evaluating the privacy and security implications of the new features and their impact. Windows 10 currently lacks the necessary privacy and security controls for installation on university systems. Until appropriate controls are in place, please do not install or upgrade to Windows 10.

If you have any questions, please contact IST at or 780-492-9400.
