Outage resolution

Start: 2016/10/30 13:25 - IST Monitoring systems reported that the www.beartracks.ualberta.ca website was unavailable. IST support escalated the issue to a third party vendor who began investigating.
2016/10/30 14:25 - Third party vendor reported that all PeopleSoft systems (Human Capital Management, Campus Solutions and Financial Solutions) were also unavailable. Third party vendor continued to investigate along with IST technicians.
2016/10/30 15:25 - Third party vendor narrowed the problem down to an external firewall device. Further investigation continued.
End: 2016/10/30 17:00 - Affected services have been confirmed restored.

Service Degradation: UAPPOL SharePoint Services Campus Wide Some Users - 2016/10/26 - 11:34

Degradation resolution

Start: 2016/10/26 11:20 - Some users, over the past few days, were unable to connect to UAPPOL (https://policiesonline.ualberta.ca) SharePoint Webpages while others were successful in connecting. IST confirmed the issue and began investigating.
2016/10/26 11:25 - IST determined the root cause of the issue and implemented a fix.
End: 2016/10/26 11:55 - After further testing with users service was confirmed restored.

The eClass environment, which provides access to eClass and eClassLive, will be offline to perform emergency infrastructure maintenance. eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable for the duration of this change. The service outage is expected to last 2 hours.

Service Change: University Wireless Service Upgrade (All Campuses) - 2016/10/20 - 20:25

The Wireless LAN (Local Area Network) Controllers, which manage wireless services, such as the University Wireless Service (UWS) and Guest@, will be upgraded. The affected users, anyone on wireless at North Campus and Augustana, will be unable to access the Internet during the change. The service outage is expected to last for 1 hour.

Service Degradation: UWS North Campus Some Users - 2016/10/20 - 09:40

Degradation resolution

Start: 2016/10/20 9:40 - A few users began reporting University Wireless Service (UWS) connections were slow. IST began investigating.
2016/10/20 10:30 - More reports from users across North Campus were received, some users reported they could not connect to UWS, issue was sporadic. Affected users were able to connect to wired connections.
2016/10/20 13:00 - IST engaged a vendor to help investigate root cause and work toward a resolution.
2016/10/20 22:00 - IST began implementing an upgrade provided by the vendor to Wireless network devices which manage wireless services, such as (UWS).
2016/10/21 00:00 - The upgrades were completed successfully, service was restored and monitoring began to see if any further issues were reported.

Service Outage: Some Secure Websites Across Campus Some Users - 2016/10/13 - 09:45

Outage update

2016/10/13 09:45 - Some users across campus are receiving an error "The security certificate has been revoked" while trying to authenticate to secure websites such as Bear Tracks, uAlberta login and many more. 
2016/10/13 10:20 - IST received confirmation this is a known issue from a certificate vendor and the vendor is working to resolve the issue.
2016/10/13 15:00 - IST continues to work with the vendor to resolve the issue. The vendor reports this is affecting users worldwide.
2016/10/13 15:50 - The following services should no longer receive errors:

  • Adobe Connect (connect.srv.ualberta.ca)
  • eClass (eclass.srv.ualberta.ca)
  • Electronic Document Resource Management Content Server (EDRMS) (edrms.srv.ualberta.ca)
  • UAlberta Login (login.ualberta.ca)

Service Outage: Terminal Services Across Campus Some Users - 2016/10/11 - 09:15

Outage resolution

Start: 2016/10/11 09:15 - IST monitoring systems discovered an issue with a server hosting Terminal Services (ts.ualberta.ca). The server was taken offline for emergency maintenance and repairs were started.
2016/10/11 15:15 - Emergency repairs were completed and affected services were started for testing.
End: 2016/10/11 15:20 - Testing was successful and service has been restored.

Start: 2016/10/11 07:45 - Monitoring system reported the University Course Catalogue websites (https://catalog.ualberta.ca/) or (https://catalogue.ualberta.ca/) were unavailable.  IST began investigating.
2016/10/11 08:05 - The server hosting these websites was experiencing an issue, rebooting the server resolved the issue.
End: 2016/10/11 08:10 - Service has been restored.
