Service Change: POSTPONED: Switch Network Upgrade (CSC, ATH, CAB 3-11) - 2017/09/07 - 12:52

PLEASE NOTE:  The change to upgrade switches that provide network connectivity in the Computing Science Centre (CSC), Athabasca Hall (ATH) and CAB 3-11  has been postponed 

 
This work will NOT be starting on Monday, Sept 11 at 20.00. The new schedule will be communicated out once confirmed. 
 

 

Previous Communication that has now been postponed:

Switches that provide network connectivity will be upgraded in Computing Science Centre (CSC), Athabasca Hall (ATH) and CAB 3-11. Affected users may experience a temporary partial building outage where they will be unable to connect to network resources. The service outage is expected to last for several hours. 

The service outage will happen each week day (Monday - Friday) of the change window from 20:00 to 07:00 the next day.

Outage resolution

Start: 2017/09/07 08:20 - Some clients reported an error "The server encountered an error, please try again" when trying to access Google Drive. Google confirmed this was a global issue and they began investigating.
End: 2017/09/07 10:30 - Google has restored service. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.

Service Change: Sitecore Framework Update University All Sitecore Users - 2017/08/30 - 12:00

Change change

University Digital Strategy is updating the Sitecore framework to add features and address the issues reported by users.  During this update, Sitecore expects users may experience any one of the following:

  • Broken links on institutional webpages
  • Design flaws (alignment issues) on institutional webpages
  • Inconsistent page content

These are temporary and should only last a short time as our environment is updated.  Should circumstances change in such a way that causes these issues to persist longer than expected, Sitecore will update this notice.

Service Degradation: Computers Some Cameron Library Computers & Some CAB Classrooms Computers - 2017/08/21 - 14:20

Degradation resolution

Start: 2017/08/21 14:20 - Some clients using IST managed computers were reporting they were getting errors when trying to authenticate. The affected computers were unable to browse the Internet. IST began investigating. Locations known to be affected were:

  • Cameron Library Knowledge Common
  • Cameron Library 1-30 Lab
  • Some Central Academic Building (CAB) Classrooms

2017/08/21 15:30 - Investigation determined network devices were not responding to authentication requests and they were restarted to resolve the issue.

Service Change: AXIA Network Maintenance (Swine Research, Bard, Acoustic Lab) - 2017/08/18 - 15:24

Change change

AXIA, the Supernet provider, will be performing a hardware replacement to ensure network stability. Users in the University of Alberta Swine Research Station, Bard, and the Acoustic Lab may be unable to access the network for approximately 45 minutes over the duration of the change.

Multiple servers will undergo routine maintenance and receive security updates performed by Information Services and Technology (IST). During the change, users will be unable to reach the services listed below. The service outage is expected to last 3 hours.  

 

  • My CCID Portal which allows users to change their passwords

  • The CCID ToolBox that provides administrative services for the CCID interface

  • OnTheHub UA Software Distribution Service that provides software downloads

  • The Information Services and Technology (IST) Website

  • The Learning Shop which lists learning opportunities for all Academic and Support Staff across the University of Alberta

  • The Central Login Service, also known as GPU (General Purpose Unix)

  • UAOpenCart, a financial application which offers services to Clients for External Business Transactions.

Service Outage: IT Services - 2017/08/14 - 12:45

Outage resolution

Start: 2017/08/14 12:45 - Monitoring systems alerted several IT systems and network devices became unavailable. IST began investigating a reported power interruption that may have impacted some IT services.
2017/08/14 13:55 - Some IT services were restored, however several servers in Computing Science were still unavailable. Some network devices were also down in the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA) and the Central Academic Building (CAB) which appeared to be affecting some Labs and Classrooms. Investigation continued.
End: 2017/08/14 15:45 - The remaining devices have been brought back online and service has been restored. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.

Outage resolution

Start: 2017/08/10 16:00 - Monitoring systems detected a number of network devices became unavailable in HUB which resulted in a loss of some IT services.
2017/08/10 16:25 - Facilities and Operations confirmed a power outage in some parts of HUB and began investigating.
End: 2017/08/10 17:20 - Power has been restored. IT services were restored. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.
