Degradation resolution

Start: 2018/06/04 12:00 - A client reported they were unable to access a home directory on AFS. IST began investigating.
2018/06/04 15:50 - The root cause was identified as a hardware failure in one of the AFS systems and as a result some AFS home directories became unavailable for a small group of clients. The defective hardware was replaced and data restoration began.
2018/06/05 01:10 - The bulk of the data was restored successfully.
2018/06/05 09:40 - Restoration of the missing data was initiated.

Start: 2018/05/26 1:30 - IST monitoring systems detected an issue with an Andrew File System (AFS) server. Users' CCID home directories and personal web pages located on the affected server were inaccessible. IST analysts began investigating.

Degradation resolution

Start: 2018/05/24 09:00 - IST investigated reports of a Mailman degradation where new messages could not be posted. Analysts began work to restore the service.
2018/05/24 16:30 - IST analysts continued to work to restore the service.

Service Change: Multistore Critical Fix (Multistore Users) - 2018/05/18 - 12:11

MultiStore, the University's multi-tenanted online store solution for faculties and support services hosted on website uaopencart-prod.srv.ualberta.ca, will receive an update to fix a critical bug. There will be up to a 5 minute outage at any time during the 30 minute change window.

AirWatch CN628 which is the Mobile Device Management application, will be upgraded to 9.4 GA Feature Pack.   

During this time frame, AirWatch users can expect the following:

  • Admin users will not be able to log into the Web Console
  • New device users will not be able to enroll
  • Existing device users will not be able to access the VMware AirWatch® App Catalog or Self Service portal
  • Existing content in VMware AirWatch® Content Locker™ will continue to be accessible, however, new content will not be available

The Central Firewall Service which manages approved access to the University of Alberta network will be upgraded.  Services relying on the PBX Management Servers will not be accessible by end users.  The servers will continue to function.  Service outages will be for 30 to 50 minutes.

As a part of an ongoing project to update authentication services in labs and classrooms, Fine Arts Building (FAB) 2036 will be unavailable during a server upgrade. While the upgrade is taking place, the lab/classroom space will experience a service outage lasting fifteen to thirty minutes.

The Earth and Atmospheric Sciences computer lab  (EAS- CCIS L1-219)  will have its hardware upgraded to run Petrel software. The upgrade will consist of installing a NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 based graphics adapter with HDMI video adapter and 8 GB of additional memory in each computer. The lab will not be available for use during this 12 day period.

Service Outage: UWS GSB, ETLC and ICE - 2018/04/18 - 09:30

Outage resolution

Start: 2018/04/18 09:25 - Some clients located in General Services Building (GSB), Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC) and  Donadeo (ICE) buildings began reporting lost connections to the University Wireless Service (UWS).  IST began investigating.
End: 2018/04/18 09:30 - Issue was caused by a unresponsive network device. Service was restored by restarting the device. Root cause investigation has begun. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.
