Changes Coming to Google Photos Tab

Starting in early January, Google will be simplifying your Google Drive navigation panel by removing the Google Photos tab.

You may have already seen this message displayed when you access Google Photos through Drive:

Although the tab will no longer be visible, you will still have complete access to Google Photos through photos.google.com. Here, you can edit photos, make albums, and share photos with your contacts.

If you want to have access to your photos and videos through Drive, you can do so by adding a Google Photos folder in My Drive:

  1. In Drive, select the gear wheel in the top-right corner to go to Settings.
  2. Ensure you are on the General tab.
  3. Scroll down to Create a Google Photos folder.
  4. Check the box to automatically create a Google Photos folder in Drive.

This change will come into effect in January 2018. Learn more about Google Photos.
