Start: 2018/06/20 10:00 - The IST Service Desk phones were unavailable due to a hardware issue. Clients calling into the IST Service Desk during the outage were experiencing a delay in having their phone call answered. IST began investigating.
End: 2018/06/20 10:45 - Restarting the networking devices that support the phones resolved the issue. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.

Degradation resolution

Start: 2018/06/19 09:50 - Clients began reporting the Bear Tracks application was slow to load or timing out. Support teams escalated the issue to the vendor for investigation and resolution.

Service Outage: PeopleSoft Services - 2018/06/15 - 11:10

Outage resolution

2018/06/15 11:10 - Clients began reporting all PeopleSoft services are unavailable, (FSCM, HCM, Campus Solutions and Bear Tracks). IST escalated to vendor for investigation.
2018/06/15 13:30 - Investigation by the vendor has determined the issue is being caused by a unidentified network issue and there investigation is continuing to find the source of the outage.
2018/06/15 16:00 - Vendor continues their investigation to resolve the issue.
2018/06/15 18:30 - Vendor resolved the network issue. Service has been restored. If you are still experiencing difficulty with this IT service, please contact IST at 780-492-9400.

Wireless LAN (Local Area Network) controllers, which manage the University Wireless Service (UWS) and the Guest@ wireless service, will be updated to address recent Google software updates. End users will not be able to use UWS and Guest@UofA to access the Internet during the update. The service outage will be up to 1 hour at anytime during the 3 hour change window. Service Degradation: Andrew File System (AFS) - 2018/06/04 - 12:00

Degradation resolution

Start: 2018/06/04 12:00 - A client reported they were unable to access a home directory on AFS. IST began investigating.
2018/06/04 15:50 - The root cause was identified as a hardware failure in one of the AFS systems and as a result some AFS home directories became unavailable for a small group of clients. The defective hardware was replaced and data restoration began.
2018/06/05 01:10 - The bulk of the data was restored successfully.
2018/06/05 09:40 - Restoration of the missing data was initiated.

Start: 2018/05/26 1:30 - IST monitoring systems detected an issue with an Andrew File System (AFS) server. Users' CCID home directories and personal web pages located on the affected server were inaccessible. IST analysts began investigating.

Degradation resolution

Start: 2018/05/24 09:00 - IST investigated reports of a Mailman degradation where new messages could not be posted. Analysts began work to restore the service.
2018/05/24 16:30 - IST analysts continued to work to restore the service.

Service Modifier: Multistore Critical Fix (Multistore Users) - 2018/05/18 - 12:11

Modifier change

MultiStore, the University's multi-tenanted online store solution for faculties and support services hosted on website uaopencart-prod.srv.ualberta.ca, will receive an update to fix a critical bug. There will be up to a 5 minute outage at any time during the 30 minute change window.

AirWatch CN628 which is the Mobile Device Management application, will be upgraded to 9.4 GA Feature Pack.   

During this time frame, AirWatch users can expect the following:

  • Admin users will not be able to log into the Web Console
  • New device users will not be able to enroll
  • Existing device users will not be able to access the VMware AirWatch® App Catalog or Self Service portal
  • Existing content in VMware AirWatch® Content Locker™ will continue to be accessible, however, new content will not be available

The Central Firewall Service which manages approved access to the University of Alberta network will be upgraded.  Services relying on the PBX Management Servers will not be accessible by end users.  The servers will continue to function.  Service outages will be for 30 to 50 minutes.
