Most of us have experienced that terrible feeling when we realize that we’ve misplaced our phone. Our photos, our personal messages, our work email and documents, our student/employee information and links to our social networks are all on one device that we carry with us everywhere. Losing our phone puts our information at risk.
To help mitigate that risk, IST is introducing an MDM application for university corporate cell phone users. The application, called AirWatch, will enhance security and reduce the risk of an information breach of personal and U of A information by ensuring a six-digit passcode and enabling file and email encryption.
“When there is a lost or stolen phone, one key aspect that we look at is if the phone is encrypted. If it’s encrypted, the severity of the risk is greatly reduced for the individual and the university,”
– Gordie Mah, Chief Information Security Officer.
In the coming weeks, IST will continue to update and engage users about the MDM application. For any additional questions about MDM, please contact IST by email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 780-492-9400.
