The Other Side of the Counter

Maciek Nowacki has always known his career would involve working with computers and technology. In his current position as Application Support Analyst at Information Services and Technology (IST), he draws on his combined knowledge and expertise in programming and IT to provide second tier IT support for the university community.

Originally from Edmonton, Maciek moved across Canada to Toronto and attended Ryerson University, where he achieved a Diploma in Computer Programming Applications. This certification program—designed to train individuals for a career in programming, application development, software engineering, database technology, networking and related user support programs—prepared Maciek for the programming component of his job.

Maciek’s programming expertise is complemented by a true dedication to helping clients. Before joining IST, Maciek spent six years working at Apple, working his way up to the position of Genius technician, where he came to love the ongoing challenge of solving IT problems for his clients. At IST, Maciek is very empathetic to student and faculty concerns. His own university experiences have taught him that life as a student can be overwhelming, especially for students straight out of high school. He knows “what it’s like on the other side of the counter,” and genuinely wants to help make their university experience a positive one.

What does the future hold? Right now Maciek is happy where he is. “I really feel like this is a great spot. I always liked being at the university and working here is amazing. I can see myself being here a long time and really settling in.” He looks forward to pursuing more education in programming and development in order to get further involved in IST’s growing application development and support initiatives.
