Now that our name has changed, what happens now? Simple...nothing! It's business as usual.
The phone number for Help Desk stays the same at 780.492.9400; the Help Desk email address stays the same at ualberta.ca/ist.
Over the upcoming weeks, there will be many things we'll need to clean up. We'll need to rename things like our Twitter and IT Pulse RSS feeds, signage, posters, computer backgrounds in labs and smart classrooms, documentation, and many more things that may not be front and centre in mind. If you, by chance, find items that have AICT on it, please let us know! We'll catalogue your findings and be sure to make them part of our plan when we rollout our new website and related marketing material.
Regarding our website, you may have noticed that only name-based elements have changed—menu structure and content has not been altered. URLs from the AICT website have equivalents under the IST website. So, hopefully, if you have AICT webpages bookmarked you'll be redirected to the IST equivalent. Please update your bookmarks as you see fit.
If you run into a webpage that provides you an error, please let us know, we'll be sure to trace the content and publish the information that is relevant.

Re: Name Change for Merged Administrative Information Systems (AIS) and Academic Information and Communication Technologies (AICT)
Effective November 13, 2013 the newly merged units: Administrative Information Systems (AIS) and Academic Information and Communication Technologies (AICT), will be named Information Services and Technology (IST).
The name change will help evolve the University’s perception of AIS, AICT, and local IT units from being separate “IT only” units to one unit that will encompass all aspects of information services and technology. IST reflects the diverse (teaching/learning, research, administrative) support skill sets of IST staff and better reflects the vision of the unit.
IST is a service unit that supports all aspects of information services and technology: information capture, storage, transfer, processing, analysis and communication. As opportunities for leveraging information emerge and evolve within the University, IST will stay relevant and not only evolve with its users, but lead them in new directions. IST staff will be innovators and thought leaders in using information and technology effectively in all aspects of teaching/learning, research and administration.
IST encapsulates the information-based teaching/learning, research, and administrative services and aligns both with Dare to Deliver’s vision and with the ICT functionality, capability, and services referred to in the Academic Plan.
