OUTAGE RESOLUTION: Google Apps – 2013/09/23

What happened?

Google reported issues with Gmail, Google Documents and Google Presentations. AICT received some reports of intermittent delays with email delivery.

Who was affected?
Some Google Apps users were intermittently affected by this outage.

What was the impact?
The affected users experienced delays receiving email and may have been unable to download attachments.

What was timeline of the incident?
Start: 2013/09/23 08:45 – Monitoring systems reported a Google Apps outage.
2013/09/23 09:45 – Google reported that some email messages were being delayed and attachments may have failed to download.
2013/09/23 12:05 - Google updated the user impact assessment to less than 50% of Gmail users.
2013/09/23 13:00 - All affected services were restored for some users and Google estimated a resolution for all users by 14:00.
2013/09/23 14:00 - Google Documents and Google Presentations were restored to normal operation. Gmail message delivery delays and attachment download issues were corrected. Google estimated that the remaining undelivered messages would be delivered over the next three hours.
End: 2013/09/23 20:00 – Google reported that all remaining messages were delivered and full service was restored.
