A Domain Name System (DNS) server that translates domain names (web addresses) into Internet Protocol addresses (IP addresses) experienced an issue.

Who was affected?
Some users sending email to a ualberta.ca email address or receiving mail at a ualberta.ca email address, as well as users visiting a ualberta.ca website may be been affected by this outage.

What was the impact?
The affected users were not able to send or receive email using a ualberta.ca email address or visit a ualberta.ca website.

What was timeline of the incident?
Start: 2013/04/12 07:55 – Users reported a problem with accessing a website on the ualberta.ca domain.
2013/04/12 08:00 – IT support analysts began working on the issue.
2013/04/12 10:15 – IT support implemented a solution to the issue.
2013/04/12 14:55 – Users began reporting that they are able to send and receive emails and access websites on the ualberta.ca domain.
End: 2013/04/15 08:30 - DNS records have been corrected and are being propagated to the internet.
