What happened?
A server that sends and receives email on the central BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) experienced an issue.

Who was affected?
BlackBerry users using the central BES to send and receive email may have been affected by this outage.

What was the impact?
The affected users were not able to send or receive email using BlackBerry devices connected to the central BlackBerry server. Sending and receiving email using the web interface (http://apps.ualberta.ca) was not affected.

What was timeline of the incident?
Start: 2013/04/16 7:02 – Start: 2013/04/16 7:02 – Users called reported a problem with sending and receiving email on their BlackBerry devices.
2013/04/16 09:00 – IT support analysts began working on the issue.
End: 2013/04/16 12:10 – Service was restored.
