Based on your needs and your affiliation with the U of A, you may be eligible for a Secondary CCID or a Guest CCID.
A Secondary CCID is not assigned for personal use—rather, it is used to represent a "thing." A Secondary CCID may be created for a departmental purpose, a Student Group, a conference, a business process, a course, or another function.
The advantage of having a Secondary CCID is that many people can use it, as it is associated with a group instead of with an individual. A Secondary CCID can be maintained for as long as the purpose for which it was created is maintained.
Departmental and Faculty Authorized Approvers now have the ability to create Secondary CCIDs for their own department or faculty. Upon request, we can still manage this for you.
For students who wish to obtain or renew a Secondary CCID for their Student Group, come visit us in person at 302 General Services Building with your ONEcard handy.
A Guest CCID is provided to individuals who are neither students nor employees, yet who still maintain an ongoing relationship with the University of Alberta. The relationship is determined by the faculty, department, or ancillary institution with which the individual is associated.
As such, it is up to the department to determine if such an individual should have a CCID, and it is in the Faculty and Departmental Authorized Approver's powers to implement the process to obtain a CCID.
If you are in the following categories of guest IDs, you are considered to provide "direct benefit" to the University of Alberta and are exempt from CCID charges:
Guest CCIDs must be renewed on an annual basis. When a Guest CCID is created, an expiration date of 12 months or less is set in place.
Two weeks prior to expiration, you will receive a warning that your Guest CCID will expire in 14 days. If you no longer require your CCID, or if your departments decides that the ID should no longer be maintained, your CCID will be allowed to expire.
If you need to maintain your Guest CCID, you must contact the Authorized Approver for your department once you have received your 2-week warning of expiration. This individual will be able to update your records, allowing your CCID to be automatically renewed for the time period specified by your department.
